Using Plywood Underlayment for Carpeting | Padding Between Subfloor and Carpeting

Add Plywood Underlayment for Carpeting

Uses of Plywood

Filling Knot Holes in Plywood

You don't need to pad between the luan plywood subfloor and carpeting, when doing home flooring. Use glue and then use screws at the corners of the plywood. You can also use glue alone with no screws, however that might result in some curling of the plywood flooring, and of course you don't want that.

Testing Before Laying Carpeting

When Plywood is nailed to a series of parallel beams called joists to create the (underlayment) subfloor. Concrete is poured as a slab and allowed to cure before carpet is installed over it. Moisture that remains in the concrete can interfere with the adhesives used to apply carpet. Therefore, all concrete should be tested for residual moisture before laying carpet.

Requirements for Carpeting Installation

Carpet can be placed directly on either type of subfloor — plywood or concrete. plyood requires a debris-free surface and the removal or repair of nails, screws and sharp objects that might damage the carpet backing. Concrete subfloors require testing and preparation before installing the carpet

For the screws, you can spend a little bit of money, and get something different. You can use flat face screws, with 2 dimples. They are called tamper resistant screws, to be honest, I don't think the wood species matters. Just make sure that you buy quality materials. Cost cannot be beat, and you can throw down a mat or carpeting in high traffic areas, for example outside the kitchen or hallways
